Riding for Cancer                                                        Nicholas Hops

On the 17th of October 2003 aged 11 I was diagnosed with an osteo sarcoma in my right tibia just below the knee. This diagnosis and the subsequent treatment have made me want to give back to the institution and people who helped save my life and can continue to save countless others through giving back to this life saving institution.

I rode the 2012 Absa Cape Epic with my Dad in an effort to raise money for the Red Cross Children's Hospital in Cape Town. In total we raised just over R51000 and had a lot of fun in the process! It was an excellent opportunity for us to give back to the hospital and Dad and I thoroughly enjoyed our adventure together.

In 2013 I will be tackling the Epic again with a UCT friend of mine - Richard Damant - Unfortunately for me Rich is Younger, Lighter and Faster than my dad so 2013 is going to be a whole new kind of challenge!!! We endeavour to once again raise money for the Red Cross and would like to meet and beat our 2012 target of R50000! Rich & I are very lucky to have Life Health Care on board as a sponsor for us and they have already given us incredible support! I have had all my operations at the Life  Vincent Pallotti Hospital down in Cape Town and am just ecstatic that they are helping us give back!
